According to officials, at least 10 people were injured in a stampede at an overcrowded platform at Bandra railway station in Mumbai early on Sunday. Two of them were in severe condition.
The Western Railway officials stated that the injuries to passengers during the busy festival season caused national outrage because they attempted to board the train before it had stopped. The BJP Government was criticized by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who described their negligence as a matter of great concern.
Because of the overcrowding on the first platform, multiple passengers suffered injuries in the stampede that occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. BMC officials stated that the injured individuals were transported to Bandra Bhaba hospital.
Western Railway officials stated that two individuals sustained serious injuries when they tried to board the 22921 Bandra Terminus-Gorakhpur Antyodaya Express before it stopped.
Overcrowded Platform Leads to Stampede at Bandra Station: Criticism Against BJP for Negligence
Passengers tried to board the 5:15 a.m. Bandra Terminus-Gorakhpur Antyodaya Express when it was moved to the platform at 2:44 p.m., resulting in injuries. Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, stated that the wounded individuals were promptly transported to Bandra Bhabha hospital.
Indrajith Sahani, 19, and Noor Mohammad Shaikh, 18, identified as critically injured passengers, were taken to KEM hospital for medical care. As per BMC officials, Mr. Noor suffered from multiple injuries and needed oxygen assistance.
Five of the other injured passengers were being treated at the Bandra Bhaba Hospital. The individuals were named Parmeshwar Sukhdar Gupta, aged 28; Ravindra Harihar Chuma, aged 30; Ramsevak Ravindra Prasad Prajapati, aged 29; Sanjay Tilakram Kangay, aged 27; and Divyanshu Yogendra Yadav, aged 18.
The platform was crowded with individuals. There was not even enough room to stand. Individuals were hopping and shoving one another in order to get to the train’s doors. I arrived to leave him, witnessed him disappear in the sea of people. Vikas Gupta, brother of Mr. Gupta, later informed me that he had suffered severe injuries. “He was returning to his home after a year.”
Criticism
Accusing the BJP government of responsibility for the stampede, Mr. Gandhi, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, declared, “The stampede is a prime illustration of the deteriorating infrastructure in India. The BJP government has engaged the victims of the Balasore train accident in a lengthy legal dispute instead of providing compensation for the 300 lives lost last year.
Inaugurations and publicity are beneficial only if there is a functioning foundation supporting them to serve the public. The loss of lives is a significant issue when public property is not properly maintained and is neglected.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut highlighted that more than 25 significant train accidents have taken place in the nation, resulting in the loss of over 100 lives, since the Modi administration took office. He asked, “Why discuss bullet trains, Metro, and high-speed trains?”
Jayant Patil, the president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Aaditya Thackeray, the leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), voiced their criticism of Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Mr. Patil mentioned that Mr. Vaishnaw could make time to travel to Maharashtra for the BJP’s election activities, yet he didn’t have time to visit the railway office and address the incident.
Mr. Thackeray requested that he act as a “Rail Minister just this once”. The incident simply shows the incompetence of the current Railways Minister. The BJP appointed Ashwini Vaishnavji as the in-charge for BJP Maharashtra for elections, however, every week there have been various incidents and accidents occurring.
