Kim Jong Un Pledges to Russia
In a meeting with Russia’s defence chief, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un promised unwavering support for Russia’s war in Ukraine, according to North Korea’s state media on Saturday.
A military delegation from Russia, headed by Defence Minister Andrei Belousov, visited North Korea on Friday, as worry increased globally over the increasing collaboration between the two countries following North Korea’s deployment of thousands of troops to Russia last month.

The Korean Central News Agency reported that Kim and Belousov agreed on strengthening strategic partnership and protecting both countries’ sovereignty, security interests, and international justice in a meeting on Friday, amidst dynamic international security conditions.
Kim stated that North Korea will always back Russia’s policy in protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity against imperialist threats for dominance, according to KCNA.
North Korea
North Korea has backed Russia’s attack on Ukraine as a defensive reaction to what they both see as NATO’s risky expansion to the east and efforts by the US to weaken Russia as a strong nation.
Kim strongly criticized a recent US decision in November that allowed Ukraine to use US-provided longer-range missiles to attack targets within Russia, viewing it as direct involvement in the conflict. KCNA said recent Russian strikes on Ukraine were described as a timely and effective measure showing Russia’s determination.
Based on US, Ukrainian, and South Korean evaluations, North Korea has deployed over 10,000 soldiers to Russia, with some already involved in combat on the front lines. The US, South Korea and other nations claim that North Korea has sent artillery systems, missiles and other traditional weapons to help stock up Russia’s depleted weapons arsenal.
North Korea and Russia have not officially verified the movements of North Korean troops, and have consistently refuted allegations of weapons deliveries.
South Korea, the US, and their allies are worried that Russia might provide North Korea with advanced weapons technology, possibly aiding in the development of stronger nuclear missiles.
South Korean national security adviser Shin Wonsik recently stated on a local SBS TV show that Seoul believes Russia has supplied North Korea with air defense missile systems. He mentioned that Russia seemed to have provided economic aid and different military technologies to North Korea, including those required for the country’s development of a dependable satellite surveillance system.
On Friday, Belousov also had a meeting with North Korean Defense Minister No Kwang Chol. During a dinner banquet that same day, Belousov emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between the two countries in protecting their sovereignty from aggression and the arbitrary actions of imperialists, as reported by KCNA.
During the month of June, Kim and Putin came to an agreement that states both nations must offer prompt military support in the event of an attack on either one. It is regarded as the largest defense agreement between the two countries post-Cold War.
