Moscow claims to have intercepted 29 Ukrainian drones. Despite Western aid, Ukraine struggles against Russia’s military advantages, as the conflict remains Europe’s largest since World War II.
Russian defense budget for 2025
Russian President Vladimir Putin has given the green light to budget proposals that will increase military spending in 2025 to historically high levels, in an effort for Moscow to gain dominance in the conflict in Ukraine.
Approximately 32.5% of the budget revealed on a government site Sunday has been designated for national defense, totaling 13.5 trillion rubles (more than $145 billion), an increase from the previously stated 28.3% this year.
Both the State Duma and Federation Council of the Russian parliament have already given their approval to the plans within the last 10 days.
Russia and Ukraine
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine, initiated in February 2022, is the largest in Europe since World War II and has depleted the resources of both countries.
Despite receiving substantial financial assistance from Western allies, Kyiv is facing a superior and better equipped Russian military, which has been steadily gaining ground in eastern Ukrainian territories, pushing back Ukrainian forces.
In Kherson, Ukraine, three individuals lost their lives after a Russian drone hit a minibus, according to Kherson regional Gov. Oleksandr Prokudin. The attack left seven more people injured.
At the same time, the amount of injured individuals from the missile attack that occurred on Saturday in Dnipro, located in central Ukraine, increased to 24, with seven in critical condition, according to Dnipropetrovsk regional Governor Serhiy Lysak. Four individuals lost their lives in the assault.
According to Ukrainian officials, Moscow dispatched 78 drones into Ukraine throughout the night into Sunday. As per the Ukrainian Air Force, a total of 32 drones were eliminated in the attacks that occurred overnight. An additional 45 drones disappeared across different locations, probably due to electronic interference.
According to Governor Alexander Bogomaz, a child was killed in a drone attack by Ukraine in the Bryansk region bordering Russia.
According to the Defense Ministry of Russia, a total of 29 Ukrainian drones were destroyed from Saturday night to Sunday morning in different areas of western Russia: 20 in Bryansk, seven in Kaluga, and one each in Smolensk and Kursk.
