Bluesky User Growth: Bluesky announced surpassing 13 million users in late October 2024 and continues to celebrate the influx of new members.
Threads’ Rising Popularity: Meta’s Threads reached over 275 million monthly active users by early November, with Instagram chief Adam Mosseri acknowledging ongoing challenges but highlighting the platform’s engaging environment.
Musk’s Influence on X (formerly Twitter): Owner Elon Musk’s support of Trump led to increased political misinformation and hate speech, causing users to migrate to alternative platforms like Bluesky and Threads.
Advertiser Concerns on X: Reports of antisemitism, pro-slavery content, and hate speech have prompted advertisers to withdraw, contributing to a drop in the platform’s valuation.
Platform Choices by Users: While some prominent users keep their X accounts to retain usernames, they are more active on platforms like Threads and Bluesky that better meet their needs.
Bluesky recently celebrated surpassing 13 million users, while Meta’s Threads reached over 275 million monthly active users as of early November. Amid this, X (formerly Twitter), owned by Elon Musk, faces challenges following Musk’s support for Trump, which spurred a rise in misinformation and hate speech. This has led to user migration to alternative platforms and a pause in advertising due to antisemitic content and other issues. Despite its declining value, X remains a key platform for news and political discourse, although many users prefer engaging on Bluesky and Threads for a better online experience.
X Rivals
The firm shared the announcement on Wednesday (November 13, 2024) and celebrated its new customers. In late October, Bluesky announced it surpassed 13 million users.
In the meantime, Threads, owned by Meta, has been experiencing a rise in users, with Instagram chief Adam Mosseri stating in early November—just prior to the U.S. election—that Threads surpassed 275 million monthly active users.
“There’s much more to accomplish and numerous issues to resolve, yet this place has an exciting quality,” he remarked on November 3.
As the owner of X, Musk lent his support to Trump, prompting numerous users to announce they were moving to other platforms due to a rise in political misinformation and hate speech. Although Bluesky and Threads are gaining traction and prominence, X continues to be the preferred platform for news, official announcements, and serious political discussions regarding current global happenings.

Nonetheless, because of problems like antisemitic discourse, pro-slavery narratives, increasing reports of hate speech, inappropriate positioning of corporate material, and the ability to profit from even unlawful media, a greater number of advertisers have been halting their expenditures on the platform. X’s worth has been significantly reduced.

Certain high-profile users have chosen to keep their X accounts to retain their usernames, but mentioned they will engage more frequently on other platforms they find better aligned with their requirements.
Although Bluesky was conceived by ex-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, he apparently is no longer actively participating in the social media service that aspires to achieve decentralisation.
